The film depends on a perishing Indian clan that is trapped in the war between the French and the British over the North American domain. The mohawks are severe adversaries with the Hurons, who are furious and dwarf them by a wide margin. One of the french leaders asks that his little girls be put under that watch magua, an individual from the Hurons, yet they didn't realize that Magua had associations with the British. Magua turns on the colonel for the french and endeavors to accept the girls prisoner as a retribution for the english slaughtering his family. This is the place the Mohawks become an integral factor by attempting to save the young ladies and they do everything they can to maintain a strategic distance from Magua and the Huron with the goal that they can take the young ladies back to their dad at the post. The main issue is that the Huron follow up on retribution, not for the French, But for themselves. This makes their longing for the young ladies more noteworthy, since they are under an eye of their adversaries. This film generally speaking was excellent however, the initial 20 minutes were somewhat befuddling while I was attempting to make sense of the characters and where they had a place in the film. The film is to some degree savage however it is just that for one explanation, its about a war so I think it is acknowledged that there be some slaughter. The entire film by and large was ver acceptable despite the fact that at a couple of spots I felt it carried on a little to much that it should. The music in the film was incredible and it fit the film consummately. I was just disillusioned in a couple of focuses and that would need to be the means by which the parts sedate out and how the film finished. I feel that it ought to have had progressively sentimental completion rather then having her end her life however that is the manner by which it was intended to be. I would give this film a 3.5 out of 5 stars. ... <! Last of the Mohicans expositions The Last of the Mohicans is generally known as an extraordinary film, joining an assortment of components to make a top to bottom understanding for the watcher. What isn't so regularly perceived, is the measure of authentic truth that is seen all through the film. Despite the fact that the characters (except for the higher positioning commanders) are commonly invented, just as the sentiment among Hawkeye and Cora Munro, the contention between the English and French was in fact obvious. Its depiction of the Seven Year War in America that truly gives The Last of the Mohicans its feeling of authenticity, which can be seen through its capacity to precisely narrative the clashes of the war, just as catch the general mentalities and appearances of the warriors. The Last of the Mohicans is notable for its epic fight groupings, yet in the event that we look past the tasteful intrigue of these scenes, we can see an authentic exertion to precisely reproduce the contention among France and England for control of the American and Canadian settlements. Normally, a few characters and occasions are decorated to expand the amusement esteem, yet there is as yet an amazing measure of chronicled exactness all through the film. The primary case of this is seen during the French attack on Fort William Henry, and the fight that Hawkeye and his buddies unearth. In the film, General Munro talks about the French beating the post into the ground with mortar fire from gradually moving toward channels. This is in actuality valid, as per a few records of the fight the constant French gun and mortar siege in the end pave the way to the full acquiescence of the fortification on August ninth, 1757 . The specific conditions around the last capitulation may have chang ed marginally based on what was shown in the film, yet the primary actuality remains that the post was in the long run given up to the French, and the English officers were sent back to Europe (or if nothing else a... <! Last of the Mohicans articles James Cooper was an incredible author, and capable with portrayals. This would clarify the gigantic detail the film includes, and the amazing perspectives the film imparts to its crowds. The characters comprised of the average majors and minors. The majors included Nathaniel or Hawkeye, as hes alluded to in the film, Chincagook, the dad, Uncas, the remainder of the Mohican clan, the Huron warriors (adversaries), Mogua (Leader of the rivals), and the British official Duncan and the Colonel Munro, who instructed Fort William Henry. I truly cant see sitting around idly summing up each of the ten scenes. I cannot recollect that much detail to turn out to be all that. Fundamentally, Im going to give my rundown of it. It opens with Nathaniel and his dad, and Uncas going through the forested areas, appropriate inconsequential until Nathaniel raises his rifle and murders the Elk they were pursuing, giving the scene a genuine point, however, an injection of what they were pursuing would have made the scene significantly more fascinating. It at that point goes to the lodge in the wild wilderness, where they talk with a neighborhood minute man about the British and French fights. We are then taken to the British Fort, the name gets away from me at press time, and are demonstrated the discussion between the local army pioneer and the British General Webb, who is sending a dispatch to Fort William Henry with a regiment and an Indian guide, subsequently, Mogua enters. Nathaniel and his 2 shadows are there, over hearing this, and leave in front of the regiment, traveling west to trap and chase where the land isnt harmed by the war. Later they meet Hawkeye, who is a tracker and a scout, and David Gamut, who is a youthful Calvinist who is attempting to spread his religion through the boondocks. Hawkeye blames Magua for selling out his gathering by driving them the incorrect way. Afterward, Magua catches the Munro sisters, Heyward, and Gamut in a cavern. Hawkeye and the Mohicans come and spare them and murder the entirety of the Hurons, aside from Magua, who get away. A couple of days after the fact they arrive at Fort William Henry, and when there is a fight going on, Magua recovers Alice, Cora, and Gamut. One of the most important questions regards how long the posts should be. There are several answers to this, depending on the type of blog and the purpose of the blog. For example, what a company blog length needs to be is a little different from what an informative blog about cooking or photography techniques should be.Word count pertaining to search engine optimization (SEO)In general, for all blogs, a blog post between three hundred and six hundred words is the best way to be sure your content ranks on a Google search page. Another contributing factor to Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is filling the content with a certain percentage of the keywords used as tags in the article or blog. The old idea of blogging and SEO was that if the word was not mentioned enough, it was not relevant enough to rank high. Conversely, if the content contained too high a percentage of the keyword, th en the content was treated more like spam information than legitimate content. The good news is the way Google searches for words now; the Google algorithms have become so intuitive that they determine the quality on the content purely on relevance with a very secondary recognition of the keyword percentage. Google thinks that at least three hundred words and generally under or up to six hundred words are the minimum and maximum to be rated high in a search result. Since Google has enhanced the way they select what is considered quality content, this means that the content needs to be consistently relevant throughout the article or blog. In non-technical terms, this means that the most significant and relevant content will be picked up, as opposed to the previously limited perimeters of what was identifying quality content. If the blogs message or point requires more words than six hundred, you can write up to one thousand words to provide enough of the information. There will be no p roblem unless the piece is cohesive and the content is of poor quality. Keyword stuffing will no longer be enough to guarantee traffic to your blog.So for the average business blog, somewhere between three hundred and six hundred words should work. However, the content needs to make sense and have the complete idea of what the message in the blog post is supposed to be. Other blogs providing helpful instructions may need one thousand words, and that is fine as long as you remember that the key is consistency, no matter how long the blog is going to be.Length for personal interest blogs, creative outlet blogs and photography blogsThis could be pertinent to a small business blog designed by and for a single owner business through which you are selling products that you make by hand such as candles, jewelry, paintings, handbags and purses, or any other creative craft for which you have a consumer base. For these types of blogs, keyword search engine optimization and appropriate length should also be considered. If you are not selling anything but your ideas, thoughts, photos and artwork, but you would like to rank high on a Google search page, you should also follow the guidelines that three to six hundred words is good, but you can go up to a thousand if and only if you stay true to the topic for the duration of the post. You might be telling your life story or documenting your engagement, and eventually, your wedding day; or the upcoming birth of a child could inspire a set of expectant parents to create a video blog post every day from the point of discovering the pregnancy until the child is five or ten years old. This would allow the parents to have something to share with their child when he or she is old enough to understand. You want to make create posts with a lot of photographs, but if you would like to include the inner workings of nervous or excited parents with a baby on the way, the word count is not as important as telling the story or anecdote or ex plain the information with as much concise clarity as possible. If the story requires no more than three hundred words to get the entire point across, that is fine, but so is a post that is a thousand words long.Length and keeping the audience awakeFor all blogs, it is important to keep all boredom or loss of interest at bay by recognizing the very short attention span the internet has created in many readers. It has come to the point that many people are not really reading anything. They are scanning everything they can but they are not reading anything with much scrutiny. This is why your length should be something short enough that scanners, who constitute a significant portion of the drivers on the lanes of the interweb, can read.Keeping the audience entertained with high-quality content can be done with one liners if they are funny enough but you could put five one liners in each blog to get closer to the minimum of three hundred. If you are working on a long, ongoing fiction p iece, for example, you should tell your story in very short sections. This helps with both the need to be concise and consistent, as well as keeping the audience waiting for more and giving it to them anywhere from once a week to several times a day. People want to read their news, blogs and story blogs quickly and then move on to the next hunt for information and entertainment, so make every word count. jenniferpie61http://www.blogger.com/profile/16061646052386420123noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7353239897750692420.post-74293139617375228662020-05-24T01:54:00.001-07:002020-05-24T01:54:03.825-07:00Essay about Identifying with Alexei in Dostoevskys The... Identifying with Alexei in Dostoevskys The Gambler The literary character that I most readily identify with would be Dostoevskys Alexei, The Gambler. I can relate to him because like me, he is a man of many passions. He is also all but helpless against his addiction to gambling. I have also felt helpless to certain circumstances in my life, as have we all. He is capable of much more than what his society allows him to be. That is to say he may be a lowly tutor, but he cares about justice and the atrocities committed by the high-born class. I, through faults of my own and Injustices of my schools administration, also was limited, as Alexei was as to what people thought of me and how they treated me. Alexeiâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Instead, she realized that his one true love was not her but gambling. Whenever I read this story, I think of how much this character that Fyodor Dostoevsky created is similar, in a lot of ways, to myself. I find myself the object of addictions in general. I used to smoke cigarettes and feel helpless against it. Sure, Id stop for a day or two here and there but once I forgot about the misery cigarettes brought me, I would light up another. I feel better now that I stopped smoking but I am scared that it wont last. Like Alexei, I have been interested in the same girl for many years. Just of late, something that I thought would never happen, is happening. I have the chance to be with this girl and I think Im messing it up. She has been my friend for many years and now its moved past friendship into something better and worse. Even though this is happening in the present and I know what to look for, I find myself powerless to the seemingly definite ruin that I feel is coming. Its so frustrating knowing all these things and not being able to change them, or at least feeling as though you cant change them. In my junior year in high school, I took up a personal crusade against what I called the evil administration at my school. I repeatedly got in trouble for things I deemed acceptable but were still against the rules. For instance, one morning I decided that I didnt want to salute the flag. The Jewish faith revolves around the theme of relationships between the Creator, mankind and the land of Israel. It is through these relationships that Jewish Beliefs, Customs and Sacred Writings interlink throughout the Jewish religion. The festival Rosh Hashanah is a prime example of where Jewish practices strongly associate with the beliefs and Sacred Scriptures of Judaism. Through the links between customs, traditions and Sacred Writings, adherents to the Jewish faith affiliate with not only their communities, but with themselves and God. Sacred Texts and Writings are the foundations of all beliefs and practices in Judaism, providing and guiding adherents with basic laws and customs to abide by. As every Jew has different devotion to their religion, beliefs and practices will be performed differently throughout Rosh Hashanah. Beliefs and conjectures are drawn from the investigation of Sacred Texts, furthering growth and relationships throughout the Jewish faith and establishing rituals performed in festivals such as Rosh Hashanah. Rosh Hashanah is referred to as the Jewish New Year, marking a 10 day period of self-condemnation. Rosh Hashanah occurs on the first and second day of the Tishri, the first month on the traditional Jewish calendar with the word Rosh Hashanah meaning ââ¬Ëhead of the yearââ¬â¢ or ââ¬Ëbeginning of the yearââ¬â¢. The Bible itself does not use the words Rosh Hashanah to expostulate the New Year, alternatively referring to it as Yom Ha-Zikkaron, meaning ââ¬Ëday of remembranceââ¬â¢. This is shown in Leviticus 23:24-25, ââ¬Å"Say to the Israelites: ââ¬ËOn the first day of the seventh month you are to have a day of Sabbath rest, a sacred assembly commemorated with trumpet blasts. I have besides identified spreads that will necessitate attending and action before 2.1 ââ¬â Competence Matrix Competence Situation / Action / Outcome Further Actions Required Leadership Skills I have over 200 security and fire systems that require care and reactive plants. A portion of my occupation is to supervise the planning of these plants and do hourly determinations on which calls are reacted to first due to urgency. We late had a state of affairs where a edifice had been struck by lightning and this had efficaciously blown up the fire dismay system. As the edifice was a wellness Centre with 24/7 occupants this proved a wellness and safety exigency as without an operating fire system the edifice would hold to be evacuated. Checking which staff were on displacement I re-routed applied scientists over to site, this had to be completed in relay due to the length of clip it took to repair to guarantee that applied scientists did non compromise their ain wellness and safety. Completing plants like this encourages my staff to work efficaciously as a squad go forthing the site with every bit much information as possible for the following applied scientist to take over. Whil st finishing these exigency works we besides have to cover any other calls that arise throughout the twenty-four hours, so on this juncture I made the determination to use impermanent sub-contract labor to transport out plants to guarantee continuance of service. The wellness Centre fire dismay system was fixed within 24 hours with occupants of the site non being cognizant that there was of all time such an issue and other clients were dealt with expeditiously with the production of sub-contract labor. Whilst being an effectual leader I find I am still sometimes intimidated when confrontation arises with technology staff. I have put this bullying down to a limited proficient cognition and this should be improved. Organizational Committedness I late changed the manner our service section runs. We used to run applied scientists within nucleus concern hours 08:30 ââ¬â 17:00, with an exigency service to cover outside these times. It became evident to me that due to the nature of the concerns we operate within that our nucleus hours needed to alter to accommodate, with applied scientists start and finish times being staggered. You read "General Manager Person Specification Commerce Essay" in category "Essay examples" I spoke to my technology and office staff as this would non merely consequence the applied scientists we would besides hold to alter our office hours ( including mine ) . After explicating to everyone the nature of the sites we looked after and the operational troubles they incur I was pleased to observe that everyone was really willing to come in into treatments sing a alteration in working hours. These alterations have had positive and negative effects on the lives of my staff but I was pleased and proud to observe that they were all willing to co-operate and move in a new way with the company. This resulted in the company being able to accommodate to new concern and supply an drawn-out service where required. I find that there are no spreads within my organizational committedness. When employed by a company I am highly loyal and set all attempt and energy into doing the company a success. Conceptual Thinking As the companies ISO9001 internal hearer it is within my function to finish a full set of process and procedure audits every 12 months. There have been a batch of alterations within the company over the last 12 months and this has led to the re-evaluation of our company procedures. I believe that procedures and processs are implemented to help a concern in running with professionalism and quality, non a hinderance. I try to instil in the sections that I audit that these processs are non set in rock and if they do nââ¬â¢t work for the company so we should happen something that does. With this in head I started the audit process for this twelvemonth, we looked at the current procedures and processs within the section and I sat down with the Undertaking Managers that have to work to the processs and asked them how they felt the processs aided or hindered them. They mentioned that the processs within their section worked good but the quality of information they received through from t he gross revenues section hindered them in finishing their occupation. I asked them what farther information could be provided to relieve this and we came up with a list of extra information. In this instance the best option was non to alter the processs for the installing section but to alter the processs for the gross revenues section. I created and implemented a checklist of information that the gross revenues section must finish before a occupation can be passed for contract reappraisal. In this state of affairs I understood the job the installing section had by placing forms or connexions, and addressed the cardinal implicit in issue. Conceptual thought includes the integrating of issues and factors into a conceptual model utilizing inductive logical thinking that lead to solutions or feasible options that may non be evidently related or easy identified. I feel I am comfy with this portion of my function and plume myself on seeing declarations through conceptual thought. The weakness I have at this point would be that I am rather protective of the quality system as I built and monitor it. Therefore any unfavorable judgment of the system I take personally and drop everything to measure whether the unfavorable judgment is validated or non. The quality system has been in topographic point for 5 old ages and is audited and reviewed for its effectivity every twelvemonth. Self Control The concern I work within is mostly client service based and whilst my frontline staff will cover with issues that arise ab initio if clients or applied scientists are non happy with a state of affairs so the issue gets passed to me. I was walking through the office when I heard one of the client service misss covering with a ailment. I heard the gentleman on the phone shouting down the line at the miss who was going rather upset. The miss told the client that she would set him through to her director and put the call on clasp. She informed me that the client had his system installed over 6 old ages ago and had a mistake with it. The miss told the client that she could organize an applied scientist and there would be a cost as the system was no longer under guarantee. Once the client realised that he had to pay for an applied scientist he started shouting at the miss stating her that he should nââ¬â¢t hold to pay anything and we should repair the mistake for free. I picked up the line to the client and asked how I could assist, he informed me of the same information my staff had and told me I should repair his job for free. I brought up his inside informations from the database and saw the age of the installing and that there was no care contract in topographic point. We offer a 12 or 18 month guarantee period with any installing we provide so this installing was surely out of guarantee. As antecedently the gentleman started to shout down the line about how he expected better aftercare than he had received. I asked the gentleman to quiet down and advised that he would non obtain any declaration whilst shouting at my staff and being opprobrious. We had no duty to this client and it would hold been really easy given his mode to inquire him to travel elsewhere and decline to function him. However, I do non like clients go forthing us with a feeling of ailment will so I advised the client that there was no care contract in topographic point and if he would take out a care contract with us I would direct an applied scientist to finish the care and expression at the mistake at the same clip which would intend no charge for the mistake. The client was happy with this result and agreed to take out the care contract, he so asked to be put back through to the client service miss and apologised for the mode in which he spoke to her. This was a state of affairs where my response to the job could hold made the state of affairs worse but by exerting a small ego control we obtained a little but long term client. I feel that this is the country in which I need to develop the most as I sometimes find it difficult to show myself with understanding and sympathy. this is chiefly with employees instead than clients and clients. Further HR consciousness would be good. Developing Others We believe in developing our staff to help them in their calling development. I am sometimes uncomfortable giving employees assessments and happen myself singling out the employees that I feel are more committed to the company and will bring forth long term benefit through preparation. Energy and Passion I love the company I work for and am invariably endeavoring to guarantee that our service section is amongst the best in the state. I believe that one individuals energy and passion to work can be infective and if you have the right squad of people they can feed off of each other ââ¬Ës energy. With this in head I set myself a end for the current fiscal twelvemonth that we increase the turnover for the service section by A ; Acirc ; A ; lb ; 200K. This was a new country for me as my function has non been specifically gross revenues oriented in the yesteryear. If this end is reached this means the service section will necessitate another applied scientist and client service decision maker. I have communicated this end to our squad and everyone is on board and motivated to win, everyone has expressed a privation to be involved in a underdeveloped section as this creates new calling chances for everyone within the section. As we are still within the fiscal twelvemonth I can non stat e whether we have succeeded but I will province that we are decidedly on mark. A victim of alcoholism will continue to drink despite experiencing health problems that may be physical, social or mental. Alcoholism is different from alcohol abuse since alcohol abuse describes a situation where drinking may result from problems emanating from the act of alcoholism, it is more behavioral than physical addiction (PubMed Health, 2011).Advertising We will write a custom research paper sample on Concept and Treatment of Alcohol Abuse specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Alcoholism is a disorder in which an individual takes alcohol despite being aware that it will ruin their lives. Alcoholics cause several problems with the people who are close to them, and they demonstrate some sense of irresponsible behaviors, for instance, by abandoning school or jobs. Alcoholism results from several years of alcohol drinking and it worsen s further with more drinking. When alcoholism is not treated, it will likely destroy the emotional and physical well being of an individual; extreme alcoholism might even lead to death. Alcoholism is a family disease since it hurts and directly and indirectly affects the lives of victimââ¬â¢s family members and the people who are close to the alcoholic person (Cleveland Clinic, 2010). People drinking alcohol do not always have knowledge of when alcohol drinking gets out of hand. The problems of alcoholism may be mind as well as life threatening, and they affect the individual, family and the society. Alcoholism is the taking of alcoholic beverages to an extent that it can interfere with the physical behavior and activities of the alcoholic person (Gifford, 2009). Thesis Alcohol is a widely used and an accepted psychoactive drug that disrupts the neurochemistry in the brain causing emotional, social, behavioral, spiritual and vocational problems. Alcohol.à Definition Alcohol is as a central nervous system depressant that when taken in limited quantities, it can have a small and mild stimulant effect. Alcohol is a legal drug accepted by societal and cultural norms of particular jurisdictions. Consistent consumption of alcohol may lead to the body adapting to its persistent presence. Neurochemistry.à Absorption, Distribution Metabolism Since alcohol is a beverage and hence it dissolves in water, it has the potential to diffuse easily into the body tissues, body fluids, and to the brain as well.Advertising Looking for research paper on psychology? Effects of Alcohol Short Term Physical Effects Unconsciousness In the context of alcohol, this unconsciousness is a form of a bl ackout. This is a situation where a patient loses his/her senses and thus appearing as if they are in a dreamless sleep, but they will try their best to appear as though they are conscious, which may not be possible. Alcohol poisoning Alcohol poisoning is an illness caused by excessive intake of alcohol. Alcohol poisoning can cause damage to the lung, and it might as well lead to cases of heart attack. Hangover When alcoholics drink late into the night, they may suffer from hangovers in the following morning. This is because alcohol has the effect of irritating the stomach. Furthermore, heavy drinking can cause sickness and nausea. Hangover is because of the dehydrating effect of alcohol (Wekesser, 1994). Sleep disturbance Irritability and anxiousness Alcohol is a depressant substance, which has a stimulating effect. Due to this effect, it can slow down the brain and the entire central nervous system hence resulting to loss of sleep. Death Intoxication, which results from alcohol co nsumption, may lead to death. When people drive under the influence of alcohol they can easily lose control and cause a fatal accident. Physiological Central Nervous System (CNS) Alcoholism undermines an individualââ¬â¢s mental judgment resulting to low inhabitation and alteration in the thoughts and the emotions of the alcoholic person. Persistent drinking can lead to the inability of the victim to coordinate body muscles (Gifford, 2009).Advertising We will write a custom research paper sample on Concept and Treatment of Alcohol Abuse specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Brain and chemical imbalance Alcohol affects the brain and the entire neural system and brain cells. An individual who has been dependent on alcohol, in the event stops drinking, he/she will experience a chemical reaction which will excite the nervous system and can agitate the level of body chemicals which in turn can prevent stress and impulsivity. Consequently , the drinking of alcohol can trigger the release of neurotransmitters like serotonin that produce euphoric feelings and reward sensation (National Institute of Heath, 2003). For a particular period, excessive consumption of alcohol can deplete the stores of serotonin, also consistent drinking may result in loss of mood. Fatty Liver Too much consumption of alcohol may result in fat deposits in the liver. Continuous drinking of alcohol can lead to the inflammation of the liver, which may in turn result, into hepatitis. Hepatitis can cause the liver to fail leading to death. Alcohol Abuse and Dependency Alcohol Use Alcohol use is like a disease. This is due to the reason that alcohol use characterized by a maladaptive drinking pattern of alcohol may lead to adverse effects. Factors of Intoxication Intoxication is the primary cause of all alcohol problems. Intoxication may lead to injuries and in extreme circumstances death. Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) T his is the universal standard used by mental health practitioners in the United States of America for classifying metal disorders. It has three components namely: diagnostic classification, diagnostic criteria sets and the descriptive text.Advertising Looking for research paper on psychology? Let's see if we can help you! Continued drinking may result in the individual being irresponsible. Alcoholism is a situation where an individual develops persistent culture of drinking even after experiencing the problems due to drinking. The loss of control is progressive and the victim can spend most of his time drinking (Manzardo Goodwin, 2006). An alcoholic person may drink more and he/she will be accustomed and more reliant on alcohol; the alcoholic becomes obsessed with alcohol. Consequences Associated with alcohol Abuse and Dependency Behavioral The behaviors emanating from alcoholism can be particularly risky. Alcoholism exposes the victim into risky behaviors that may result from their impulse actions. Risk takers and sensationally oriented behaviors are because of the use of alcohol. High consumption of alcohol may result to high susceptibil ity to risk taking behaviors (National Institute of Health, 2003). Social Alcoholism has an adverse economic impact on the entire society. Alcoholism may result in low productivity, massive expenditure in health care, diseases and illness and premature deaths. Much of the costs resulting from alcohol abuse are borne by those who do not take it. Alcoholism may also result in the commission of crimes. Emotional Alcohol suppresses emotional pain; it is a loyal friend in the event of relationships failing. Alcoholics are often, tempted by the negative feelings that might force them to return after a long period of withdrawal (New York Times, 2011). Vocational Employment Assistance Program Alcohol can affect every aspect of a patientââ¬â¢s life. According to the Occupational Health and Safety Administration, most of the people that are addicted are in employment hence leading to hazards in workplace and development of an unproductive workforce. Treatment and Recovery Background on the organization Alcoholic Anonymous (AA) is a self-help group of both men and women who are recovering from alcoholism. This group involves individuals who share similar hope, aspirations, strengths and experiences. It is interested in proving emotional assistance to people with the problem of alcohol dependence. They have braches in several countries on the globe. The group utilizes a 12-step approach to achieve its mission and objectives. The group has a common agenda of assisting others to recover from alcohol dependency (Grapevine, 1958). Founding principles The addicts should meet one and the only demand of stopping to drink before joining the group, and there are no charges or subscription fee. AA is a non- governmental organization and not affiliated to any religious or political group; twelve steps to realize its objectives guide the group members. Problems and resistance Aexperiences a lot of problems and resistance in its desire to achieve the desired goals. This resistance and problems are: Its stressing on absolute abstinences: for many alcoholics, total abstinence is a difficult task; various alcoholics would prefer treatment that will permit them into taking alcohol again than abstinence. Stigmatization: stigmatization of alcoholics is a reality in every society, alcoholics therefore avoid joining AA due to the fear of stigmatization and they instead opt to remain alcoholic. Fear of being noticed by friends or acquaintances: there is the fear by the victims that in the course of AA meetings, they risk noticed by their friends or business associates. Medication therapy and other philosophies Naltrexone The patient is injected with a version of a Naltrexone which can be administered to the patient once in month. There are, however, some circumstance where the patient can take a pill, recommended that the patient take the injectable drug since it is preferable for people who are highly dependent on alcohol. Injected drug also has the advantage of cons istency. The drugs aid in blocking the brain hence reducing the demand and the craving for alcohol by the patient. Rehabilitation After the victim undergoes detoxification, rehabilitation can enable him/her to stay away from alcohol. In the rehabilitation, the patient is counseled, provided with psychological help, nursing service and medical attention to prevent cases of lapse. Behavioral therapy This is a crucial part of alcohol dependency treatment. It is acknowledged that alcoholism can have a deep psychological roots and therefore a perfect therapy program is necessary to assist the victim understand what has caused his/her behavior as an alcoholic and this will enable him/her to make some amendments into his/her life (Maltzman, 2008). New treatment and research Very many drugs that if taken can assist in suppressing the withdrawal symptoms. Some medications can be effective in blocking part of the brain that is responsible for producing sensations when there is intake of alcoh ol. There are two main kinds of treatment: long-term and short-term while others may be in in-patient and outpatient. Longer duration of treatment can be effective and can produce better results. These treatment facilities can be private or public. Sober living and independence According to many alcoholics, overcoming or avoiding intake of alcohol is a difficult task. Stopping to drink alcohol is the best remedy. Abstinence does not depend on the duration within which the alcoholic has been drinking alcohol neither does it depend on the degree of addiction but it takes individual decision (Siclair Escapa, 2008). Conclusion Alcohol is a socially accepted drug that can devastate all areas of oneââ¬â¢s life. It disrupts the neurochemistry in the brain and gets progressively worse if not treated. Although there is still much to learn about alcohol and addiction, today research offers promising hope for those addicted to alcohol. Alcohol is progressive disease and if not arrested at its early stages, it may lead to health, physical and emotional problems, and at the extreme case, it may lead to death. Alcoholism may be because of addiction, compulsion and obsession. References Cleveland Clinic. (2010). Alcoholism. Cleveland Clinic. Web. Gifford, M. (2009). Alcoholism. New York, NY: ABC-CLIO. Elder people understand that knowledge is one of the main ways for success in the future. Those who have profound knowledge in different spheres and specialize in one specific field can achieve high results in their careers.Advertising We will write a custom article sample on Three Things You Can Do to Help Your Child Do Better in School specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More But, this information is available and understood by parents, children are not so conversant with this issue. Thus, it is possible to conclude that parents are those who should encourage and help their children study. There are a lot of different strategies which may be helpful for parents in this question, but there are three main things each parent should do to help a child to do better at school. Childrenââ¬â¢s success depends on their parents One cannot reject that each c hild has a right to attend public school and succeed there. All parents want their children to be prosperous and they are to help them. School education is the process which should be guided by parents. Much research has been provided in the sphere of the connection between school and home. Scientists have proved that school-home collaboration in the questions of a childââ¬â¢s studying is useful. Close connection between school and home enhance studentsââ¬â¢ desire to study as they see that parents support them in this difficult but really interesting initiative.[1] The research conducted by Jan Hughes and Oi-man Kwok[2] shows that children study better when they see collaboration between parents and school. Thus, if childrenââ¬â¢s success also depends on the actions of their parents, they should act. We would like to offer a list of three main things parents should do to help their children do better at school. First of all, parents should make sure that their children use modern textbooks, up-to-date sources and innovative technologies, like computers and the Internet. Second, parents should motivate their children to study and explain that school is not the only place where they can learn. It is necessary to deliver the idea that learning is an interesting and exciting process which does not finish with leaving school. Third, parents should create special room for studying and set particular hours for this process. These actions help parents influence their childrenââ¬â¢s psychological needs and make those interested in studying on unconscious level.[3] Up-to-date information and innovative technologies Innovative technologies have entered human life so strong that it is impossible to imagine a house without a computer and the Internet. The Internet allows students get new information as soon as possible. Moreover, fast change of the information becomes available for students.Advertising Looking for article on education? Nowadays, many books and other sources are republished almost every year. Parents should check the books their children use and do all possible to get the most recent editions. Parents should follow this process. Furthermore, parents have an opportunity to sign for journals with the necessary information. At the same time, it is important to check what information children read. Having too much available data, parents should set control on the sites children visit and the sources they download. Thus, having personal computers children should provide their parents with free access. The use of the innovative technologies in the educational process should be supported. Parents are to consider childrenââ¬â¢s curriculum and try to get additional programs and software aimed at increasing student sââ¬â¢ knowledge in the form of games. There are also a lot of tests which may be used as additional source of knowledge.[4] But, using this kind of software parents should not go too far. Children should use the Internet as the source of entertainment as well, otherwise, they will lose the interest and the studying will become a torture for them, even with the use of the innovative technologies.[5] So, the first thing parents should do to help their children is to provide those with the most recent information and direct the use of the computers and the Internet to the learning purposes. Strong motivation Parents play important part in studentsââ¬â¢ motivation. There are a lot of different ways how they can influence their children. Personal experience, school recollections, reasonable arguments and other means of motivation may be used for encouraging children study better. Motivation is a strong factor in education. Parents should remember that they are to encourage their c hildren for studying constantly reminding them that their success depends on knowledge they are able to get at school. Motivation is the basis for any action and students should be reminded the main purpose of their school attendance.[6] Parents are free to motivate their children in different ways. They should remind that school is not the final stage of education and the whole life will bring children new lessons to study. Children should feel that education is not only obligatory, it is the thing they like and are ready to accept as nothing is made without the desire.[7] Parents, who were successful in school, have managed to get good education and now remain successful in their careers and social life positively influenced their children.[8] The difference between vocational and academic education dos not play crucial role in the motivational reasoning. It is important that parents should have positive recollections and great achievements in the present time. Children in this ca se will desire to repeat the success their children have.Advertising We will write a custom article sample on Three Things You Can Do to Help Your Child Do Better in School specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More This is like the behavior on the basis of the personal experience, but deeper. Children not only try to copy the behavior of their parents relaying on parental guarantees that it is useful, they have an opportunity to see that success at school gave them an opportunity to achieve high results in their careers. The ability to observe the connection is a good motivator for children. Thus, appropriate motivation is the second way for improving childrenââ¬â¢s success in school and parental role in this process. Special room and particular time It is natural that each individual should have its personal space. Looking deeper at the problem it may be stated that each person should also have space for particular activities. If students have specific place where they make their homework and parents control time children spend on this process, the results are going to be great. Parents should help their children create successful environment at home. The atmosphere of studying may encourage children for better ideas, the general mood of studying should be present. Parents are responsible for this. It is appropriate if parents have an opportunity to connect this place with school it would be better as students will feel as it at classes and at the same time at home. Time scheduling is also important. When parents set specific time for homework, children know that they should spend it with profit. When this time is over, children will have time to do all they want. Three aspects of parental success When parents try o help their children with studying, they should remember that they must not be too insistent. To make the process of parental intrusion into childrenââ¬â¢s learning natural, parents should follow these steps. First, parents should provide their children with the information about how strategies and sources should be used. It is important not to teach but to offer the suggestive ideas about the use of the received information, not the information itself. The second stage of parental intrusion is an attempt to deliver the necessary information by means of trying to check childrenââ¬â¢s level of understanding and speciation of the information parents want to provide to their children. The final stage of parental intrusion is emotional one. Parents should show that they care about their children and about their emotional condition. It is important to make children understand that self regulation is one of the best ways to remain in good mood and be able to cope with the tasks.[9] Therefore, it may be concluded that the role of parents in the learning of their children is great, but parents should not insist on direct participation in it. It is important to supply children with nec essary information, provide those with required tools and follow the conditions they study in without forgetting about constant motivation and encouraging. They may also question the potential offered for addressing the 'wicked issues' that transcend departmental boundaries. They will almost certainly be interested in costs and the potential for savings. They will be aware of the issues surrounding openness and security. They should have regard for the impact of the electronic services on democratic structures. In spite of potential benefits of information availability and easy access, it allows the state and military agencies to control society and introduce effective surveillance methods to monitor social processes and maintain social order Surveillance is achieved through different channels including business information and personal information. Companies are increasingly finding that, if they combine their information assets with those of other companies, the combined information resource is considerably more useful to all sides: two and two, in this instance, can make a lot more than four. Put together a social security or tax database with another database of people who owe debts and you have a means of tracking individual debtors over long periods of time and collecting the debt from them when they finally have the money to repay it (a process known as debt surveillance and already being offered by some companies) (Lister 2003). This is the virtual equivalent of the synergies that merging companies have traditionally sought, and its compelling economics mean that companies in the future are more probably going to be looking for ways to combine their information with others than looking to maintain the conventiona l barriers between industries (Green 1999). It is inconceivable that the government would launch electronic services in anything other than a partnership with the private sector. It is, therefore, necessary to take the perspective of the IT supply industry into account. This is an industry looking at a big prospective market. They will be making comparisons with other market sectors and, given the multinational nature of the players in the industry, with developments in other countries (Lievrouw and Livingstone 2005). For the industry, the issues will be associated with the speed of market growth, their likely market share, the level of initial pump-priming investment they will be expected to make, and with their ability to deliver the agenda set by government. For electronic government, as for most other services, it is possible to identify three main groups of player: the users or recipients of the service, the providers, and the wider society or community within which the service is offered. Each of these, however, may have important sub-groups that need to be taken into account. Before attempting to measure the impact of electronic government, it would, therefore, be necessary to identify the different players, to establish what they will use as benchmarks and points of comparison and to explore what, for them, are the important issues that need to be considered in any assessment of impact (Lister 2003). Surveillance is achieved through control of circulation of information and news available in the internet and in mass media. Sales of national, regional and local newspapers have been falling in the many countries for a number of years. This particular campaign as witnessed has been successful in making a huge impact in the global market which has been quite beneficial for Samsungââ¬â¢s Galaxy S5 in its introductory phase. This is the stage when a particular commodity is newly familiarized in the market which requires certain marketing support. Advertising is used as a marketing tool to create awareness among consumers about the product in order to alleviate its brand image (Soltani, 2012; Trehan & Trehan, 2011). Similarly, Hyundai with the use of hashtag ââ¬Ë#BecauseFutbolââ¬â¢ promoted its brand along with products to the football fans worldwide. Hyundai, the automobile company, is in its growth phase of product life cycle which effectively used the ââ¬ËTumblr-powered micrositeââ¬â¢ to promote its brand in the global market. This is the stage when there is a steady rise in the sales curve of the company along with market growth. jenniferpie61http://www.blogger.com/profile/16061646052386420123noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7353239897750692420.post-64194531898297639222020-01-27T06:44:00.001-08:002020-01-27T06:44:08.113-08:00Matters Of National Interests And Security Politics EssayMatters Of National Interests And Security Politics Essay In a very generic sense, national interests are that which is deemed by a particular state to be a . . . desirable goal. The attainment of this goal is something that the identifying state believes will have a positive impact on itself. Realization of the interest could enhance the political, economic, security, environmental, and/or moral well-being of a populace and the state or national enterprise to which they belong.à [2]à This holds true within the territory of the state, as well as in any external relations that the state may undertake outside of the administrative control of that state.à [3]à Interests serve as the foundation and guiding direction for the formulation of policy. For a nation-state, there is more often than not a direct correlation between the nations interests and foreign policy. In most cases, statesmen think and act in terms of interest.à [4]à Those interests believed to be the most significant for the attainment of a policy objective (the states wants and needs)à [5]à will earn the greatest amount of emphasis during the policy formulation process. They should be designed to tell the policymaker why and how much he should care about an issue. Interests help determine what kind and how much attention should be given to both challenges or threats and opportunities. They also assist the policymaker in identifying key issues during the policy formulation process. Some political scientists, like Hans Morgenthau, believe that national interests are permanent features of the international system. Regardless of what government is in power, the interests of a nation-state remain fixed components of the policymaking process. They are unaffected by the circumstances of time and place.à [6]à Morgenthau, himself, indicates that the key concept of interest is not to be defined with a meaning that is fixed once and for all.à [7]à Morgenthau believed the generic concept of interest was unchanging in terms of its importance to the international system. But this did not mean that individual interests could not be adjusted or newly created in order to take into account changes in the international system. Other theorists have argued that interests are likely to be a diverse, pluralistic set of subjective preferences that change periodically, both in response to the domestic political process itself and in response to shifts in the international environment. The national interest therefore is more likely to be what the policymakers say it is at any particular time.à [8]à The underlying three basic interests are:- Security: Protection of the people (both home and abroad), territory, and institutions of the State against potential foreign dangers.à [9]à This has always included defense of the homeland. Domestically, it also includes protection of critical infrastructure such as energy, banking and finance, telecommunications, transportation, water systems, and cyber networks.à [10]à Economic Well-Being: Promotion of international trade and investment, including protection of a States private economic interests in foreign countries.à [11]à Democratic Values: Until the 20th century, this core interest was confined to ensuring that the domestic democratic process and associated values framed the traditional tenets of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Some states may include the promotion of democracy and human rights abroad.à [12]à Just as the development of national interests is complex, so is the actual application of interests in the policy and strategy formulation process. The importance of national interests to the process is significant, as described by Lord Palmerston, the British foreign minister in 1856: When people ask me . . . for what is called a policy, the only answer is that we mean to do what may seem to be best, upon each occasion as it arises, making the interests of our country ones guiding principle.à [13]à The policy framer participating in the development of interests must take the following issues into account: How flexible can the interest of the moment be in relation to the states core interests of the period? Must the interest be based on either realism or morality, or rather; can it be some combination of the two? Where does the interest fit in terms of how it is to be categorized with what degree of intensity? Perhaps the most complicating factor that the policy framer must take into account will be the influence of domestic politics on the interest formulation process. The concept that resource allocation by type and quantity will be impacted by the identification of the interest designed to guide a policy creates a critical linkage between the two. The connection is key because, in a democracy, it is the government of a state actor that will have to sustain the investment of resources required to attain the interest. Interests with greater fidelity and less ambiguity are easier for governments and populations to support because they have a clearer idea of why it is they are being asked to do something, like allocate money or military forces.à [14]à At the same time, such a detailed understanding could lead to a lack of support on the part of either the government, the people, or parts thereof, if the interest is assessed to be too low on the scale of intensity. If they are to develop relevant and executable 21st century interests, a most important understanding for those participating in the interest development process must be that they are endowed with a degree of flexibility allowing them to discern the limits of domestic politics in terms of what types of interests are likely to be supportable. This must entail the provision of the maximum amount of data available for the development and resulting identification of the interests at hand. The greater the fidelity and degree of consensus on categorisation and level of intensity, the greater the possibility that the public will support actions to protect or advance the interest. DEFINITIONS At this juncture it would be worthwhile to look at some definitions, to get a complete perspective in to national interests, power and security. National interests The national interest, often referred to by the French term raison dÃâ°tat, is a countrys goals and ambitions whether economic, military, or cultural. The notion is an important one in international relations where pursuit of the national interest is the foundation of the realist school. It has 5 major dimensions namely; Geo Political, Economic, Military, Socio-cultural, and Science Technology. National Interests therefore stem from the evolving National goals in each of these dimensions and is also a reflection of the relative National Strengths with regard to these dimensions. POWER In the context of international relations and diplomacy, power (sometimes clarified as international power, national power, or state power) is the ability of one state to influence or control other states. States with this ability are called powers, NATIONAL STRATEGY The art and science of developing, applying, and coordinating the instruments of national power (diplomatic, economic, military, and informational) to achieve objectives that contribute to national security. Also called national strategy or grand strategy. NATIONAL SECURITY 1. National security is the requirement to maintain the survival of the nation-state through the use of economic, military and political power and the exercise of diplomacy. 2. National security can be defined as a collective term encompassing both national defence and foreign relations.à [15]à In general, it is the study of the security problems faced by [actors], of the policies and programs by which these problems are addressed, and also of the government processes through which the policies and programs are decided upon and carried out.à [16]à It relates both externally and internally to the actor-the foreign and domestic components of national security. 3. In the context of USA it is a collective term encompassing both national defense and foreign relations of the United States. Specifically, the condition provided by: (a) a military or defense advantage over any foreign nation or group of nations; (b) a favorable foreign relations position; or (c) a defense posture capable of successfully resisting hostile or destructive action from within or without, overt or covert. 4. National security is thus a multi-dimensional view and response towards protecting National Interests against internal and external threats. It is dynamic and evolving as a derivative of National Interests which in itself is an evolving derivative of National Strength. It Underpins and guarantees the pursuit of National Objectives in a competing international arena. Further any issue that has the potential to directly impact the pursuit of National Goals can be classified as an area of National Interest, and it can thus be brought under the ambit of national security. ECONOMIC POWER Modern conflict, from conventional warfare to diplomatic disputes, has increasingly involved economics in some form. Nations use economic tools to pursue objectives, seek economic resources as national goals, or are affected by economic events that influence their national security. Both state and non-state actors use economic power to wage war and to influence events regionally or globally. Economic considerations range from simple access to resources like water or raw materials through transforming resources into finished products or services to providing financial resources. The ability to gather, transform, and use resources is a key component to national security. Many human activities, including those involving national security, can be either severely limited or dramatically enhanced by economic factors. Military operations and other national security actions frequently depend on the results of economic capability. Without the capacity to produce, finance, or support key natio nal security activities, a nation would have a limited ability to protect its domestic and international interests. Economic power has spread widely and gained importance in recent years. Globalisation, the reliance on economics, and the diffusion of economic power from a few industrial states to many developing ones has radically changed the world. Global economic success has also conferred power on a large group of sovereign governments and even corporations. The threat or actual action by a government, organization, or cartel can create enormous economic impact. Markets are extremely sensitive to news that would affect potential financial or economic activity. Oil prices can rise rapidly if tensions increase in the Persian Gulf or if a natural disaster occurs. Single events with little obvious international significance could ignite a sell off by investors in overseas and domestic stock markets. Global communications can spread panic and exacerbate the condition. The changing environment has altered the emphasis on national elements of power so that military power is not necessarily the primary coercive tool in international relations, and economic power has gained increased importanceà [17]à . During the age of total war that spanned World Wars I and II, military power was the coin of the realm in foreign affairs. Economic power played a role in those wars, but the fight for national survival overrode the impact of domestic and international macroeconomic stability or growth. Economics served primarily as a provider of resources to the military element of power. In an era of increased consumer demand, technological growth, changes in society, and the evolving nature of conflict, the importance of economic considerations rose. During the Cold War, national survival was still at stake, but even then economic considerations became just as important as nuclear parity with the Soviet Union. President Dwight D. Eisenhower warned of military ex penditures impeding future economic growth the net result of which would degrade security for the nation. Nuclear sufficiency became acceptable rather than superiority with the associated costly numbers of intercontinental ballistic missiles, strategic bombers, and submarines. Guns versus butter questions also arose as the challenges of an undeclared Cold War against Moscow pitted social spending against defence resources. Today, economic issues play a pivotal role in conflict. Advanced technology, contractors on the battlefield, volunteer militaries (that tend to be more expensive than conscript armies), reconstruction of battle ravaged nations, and other considerations make war and conflict expensive. Countries do not have inexhaustible resources to conduct long wars even if there is a direct and desperate threat to national survival. Questions of national treasury, consumer demand, labour constraints, finance, and other economic considerations can sway public sentiment against a conflict. If one nation wages war or takes other actions to isolate another state, investors around the world become nervous. Stock and commodity markets could affect financial conditions and create unforeseen reactions. These reactions may create adverse conditions that could force a change in strategy by the nation trying to influence a rivals behaviorà [18]à . As economic issues affect national security capabilities and activities, so might efforts that involve national security create global economic impacts. War or political disruption in an oil producing region will initiate tremors in the international energy sector. Although a nation might not be directly affected by the initial problem, the populace can suffer from increased prices from petroleum products that could result in greater unemployment, inflation, credit issues, and foreign exchange problems. Demands for added military expenditures could translate to increased taxes that discourage consumer spending and business investment or reductions in other governmental activities that can directly shape the economic landscape. Competition for limited resources to meet national security policy objectives could also hamper private or other governmental activities. Nations can increase borrowing, raise taxes, spend surpluses, confiscate resources, or monetize debt. All of these options have unique economic effects on a nation. Economics is an element of national power. Normally, one of a nations key national interests is maintaining a viable economy to ensure a certain standard of living for its citizenry. States can use economic power to deter, compel, coerce, fight, and even rebuild a former opponent to meet a particular need. Economics becomes a vital component of the ends, ways, and means of security. Perhaps uniquely among the traditional elements of national power, economics might be any of the three aspects of strategy-the objective of a nations strategy might be economic; economics might provide the means to achieve the end; or a nation might pursue its ends using economics as the primary way to exert power. Whether economics is a way or a means to achieve a national interest or if it is a cause or motivation to take an action, national leaders must pay attention to this increasingly significant security factor. ECONOMICS AND NATIONAL INTEREST States and non-state actors have historically fought over economic issues. Wars about open access to resources, trade routes, competition, profit, and other economic issues are common in military and diplomatic history. A keen competition for resources among governments, individuals, corporations, and other actors has created a complex web of economic dependencies and rivalries that was not as important in the past. Similarly, economic conditions can create an environment that fosters demands for change that could create a civil war, a fight for access to markets or resources, or other forms of economic competition. Countries with weak or failing economies may resort to actions that they might not have considered had their economies been stronger. One specific area which deserves a brief discussion is oil as a cause or objective of war. Reliable access to oil at reasonable rates is a vital national security interest for every developed and many of the more developing nations. Governments or international organizations that control oil production or pricing can effectively disrupt global economic conditions-whether purposefully or accidentally. A monopoly or oligopoly that controls a strategic asset, capability, or raw material has great potential to disrupt economies and create political instability, although few commodities have the same potential impact as oil. Major perceived or actual disruptions in the oil market are serious events that easily can trigger hostile responses from concerned governments. Today, oil is the best example of a resource that is both scarce and vital; however, other resources like water are also likely sources of conflict. We can expect economic issues-particularly access to raw materials and resou rces-to remain one of the significant objectives of international relations and causes of conflict. Economic intervention in or withdrawal from the economy of a foreign nation-as opposed to supporting its debt-can have tremendous impact on the financial well being of a region or country. Governments do not usually participate directly in the economy of another nation. However, direct participation in the economy of another nation through private companies is widespread. Depending on the business and political climate of firms home state, such participation may provide some degree of power for that home stateà [19]à . Regardless of the degree of external governmental control, decisions by private firms and multinational corporations to invest or do business in a country can influence national policies. Such decisions are independent and can be contrary to a host nations interests. In an age of globalized financial markets, almost any corporation, organization, or individual can transfer capital into a country or take it out. This transfer generally can occur by using national or international stock, bond, commodity markets, or through direct investment into business ventures. Rapid inflow of capital can provide a needed boast to growth while rapid outflow can sink a nation into recession. Governments can use their economic power through other means. For example, rather than lending money by bond purchases, they can provide direct support to another nation through a variety of programs that essentially provide money or services. Foreign aid, loan guarantees, technical aid and services, and other assistance can provide a number of flexible tools to support national interests. The transfer of wealth from developed to developing countries that sell raw materials or manufacture low-cost products can create economic problems. Governments worried about the outflow of capital, goods, services, industries, and jobs might erect barriers to restrict or stop trade. Such actions rarely go unchallenged, and a counter tariff barrier or legal challenge is a likely response. Conversely, governments willing to accept what are hopefully temporary trade imbalances for potential future benefits may allow the transfer of wealth and even industries and jobs to continue. Such is the political and economic theory behind the whole free trade movement-the North Atlantic Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) being a visible example. Transfer of key technologies, processes, equipment, or skills can also enable foreign governments and private firms-granting in some cases access to capabilities that would have taken years and many resources to acquire independently. Economic power normally involves the trade of finished goods or raw materials. Few countries can claim to produce all of the goods and services that their citizens use. Many nations require energy imports to subsist. Conversely, nations that may have oil, natural gas, or other energy sources might need food imports or other foreign services like skilled labour. Nations can work within international trade agreements, or they may take unilateral action to expand or restrict trade. A country might try to limit trade to hurt a rival. Economic power could also prevent or limit actions taken by a rival. Suppose a country requires a scarce raw material. If an adversary has sufficient funds, influence, or credit, it could purchase and withhold that raw material from its foe. The nation could also coerce sellers to prevent sale of that raw material to the opponent. States could put pressure indirectly on an opponents allies to force a nation to take certain actions. After the 1973 Yom Kippur War, Arab oil-producing countries refused to sell oil to the United States and other nations that supported Israel. This embargo boosted oil prices and shifted international power from the developed nations to ones that relied primarily on oil extraction. Political and economic power was redistributed when these actions were combined with the nationalization of private, foreign-owned petroleum companies in these oil exporting nations.à [20]à THE PRIVATE SECTOR AS A STRATEGIC TOOL Although not generally controlled by governments, disregarding currency manipulations designed to offset them, commercial balance of payments are another form of debt that can have foreign policy implications. Fears of a pending financial disaster could cause lenders to pull capital out of the market and further exacerbate the situation. Unfortunately, globalized communications can now spread fears among global investors almost instantaneously. The result is that economic issues that might have been localized events only decades ago can now turn into global issues. Additionally, since private investors may act contrary to government desires, governmental and even international efforts to stem economic crises may be ineffective. Some nations fear excessive foreign investment due to a perceived influence or concern over precipitous withdrawal; others accept the risk and welcome foreign investment as a reasonably available source of funds. Although some nations find these actions helpful, critics argue that this capability can also be used to stifle competition, protect national interests, or create geopolitical troublemaking.à [21]à Foreign funds do provide a needed economic boast, but t hey can also disappear quickly should confidence fail Multinational corporations and firms typically have the resources and ability to get access to once closed markets. Governments might offer subsidies or grant special benefits to attract business to their country. Once established, the multinational corporation could exert a powerful influence on the government since its affairs affect the nations economy. Similarly, in highly contested markets, a multinational corporation could offer restricted technologies, move production of key subcomponents, offer bribes, expand production beyond the initial plan, or provide other incentives to gain access to the market. Companies can lobby their home countrys government (assuming it favours the move into the other nations market) for help lifting trade restrictions or access to technology or influencing the host nations foreign policy. In the most basic sense, economic power is an entitys ability to acquire, produce, and use raw materials, goods, and services. A nation cannot engage in conflict over an extended period without an adjustment to its economy. In many cases, countries must devote goods or services to prepare for or fight a war or even to conduct other activities that affect the national interest. Humanitarian aid, defence expenditures, diplomacy, alliance membership, and other vital actions depend on a countrys ability to raise and spend tax revenues, borrow funds, use surpluses, or finance these measures. Economic power allows players to conduct actions by providing the personnel, equipment, operating materials, infrastructure, and short or long term sustainment of that capability Governments purchase commodities and equipment like a business, obtain labour (military, government civilian, and contractor), maintain physical infrastructure, conduct research and development, and in some cases also produce unique goods and services peculiar to national security. Resource decisions mold the creation of force structure to include investments in weapons, recruitment and retention of military and civilian personnel, decisions to fund military or non-military government programs, and a host of other concerns that affect national security policy. Further, economic conditions, once the exclusive concern of financial institutions, investors, and businesses, now affect military decisions that range from recruitment to government borrowing that directly influences a powers ability to provide military capability. Arms sales, transfers of key military technologies or technologies related to weapons of mass destruction, contracting for goods and services by individuals and firms, and other economic activities can influence the national security environment. Nations that have sufficient resources can upgrade their military forces with more and better capabilities. Military forces that lack personnel or equipment could rely on contracted services or purchase advanced weaponry from other nations. If the state has limited forces, it can change the composition of its military forces by hiring specialized services that would have taken years to develop or that they only need for a limited time. Contractors on the battlefield are not new phenomena. The U.S. Government has used contractors in several wars. Other nations have hired military pilots and aircraft, logistics, and combat forces to expand and enhance their limited capabilities. Today, governments can lease satellite communications, photographic imagery, multi-spectral analysis, and navigational systems that were once the province of superpowers that had exclusive use of space systems. Individuals, firms, and governments can use these functions-for a price. This capability can change a balance of power at critical times during a conflict. Oil profits have allowed the Russian government to finance a larger military budget that has given Moscow the ability to build a new intercontinental ballistic missile, aircraft, and other weapons to revitalize its national security and foreign policies. Other countries, like Iran and Venezuela, also fuel their defense and security programs by oil sales. Nations building advanced technology consumer goods like information systems could use similar technologies to improve their military forces. While national leaders consider and adapt economics as an element of national power, these same leaders are also affected by economic events that may limit their policies options. Economic considerations can have very influential impacts on the conduct of military operations and diplomatic actions. Globalisation has allowed nations to conduct business with allies, former enemies, and potential rivals. New relationships between citizens and governments that highlight cost reductions, profits, and long range business activities can impact national security measures in a host of ways. Current economic conditions also have a large impact on military operations. Inflation contributes to reduced purchasing power by a government. This includes activities from purchasing fuel, paying for contracted work, demands for greater pay for military and civilian workers, and other acquisition activitiesà [22]à . Similarly, a recession-a sustained downturn in economic activities-reduces tax revenues and encourages moves by politicians to stimulate the economy or support the unemployed or struggling citizens. These policies can significantly reduce the amount of defence spending for a nation. However, some of these conditions might provide relief to the government. Unemployment may ease recruitment and retention problems in the military. Increased competition for fewer government contracts might reduce the cost of operations. Tools to fight economic problems may also create unforeseen issues. A central bank could raise or lower interest rates. These actions can affect the ava ilability of investors to purchase government debt and the cost of borrowing for contractors to build the latest fighter aircraft. OTHER ECONOMIC SECURITY CONSIDERATIONS Expanding trade can provide several benefits to nations. It can create better efficiencies in production by seeking the lowest cost, most effective producers. This situation could lead to greater economic growth and improved standards of living around the world. However, not all nations find an economic niche that allows economic growth. Cheaper outsourced services and imported goods may destroy domestic industries. Large numbers of unemployed workers could create domestic problems for a government. Further, reliance on foreign imports could impoverish the state and complicate its financial and credit situation. If nations rely on foreign goods, then any problem that hinders trade could cause issues globally. A natural disaster, potential conflict, trade dispute, or other problem could restrict the flow of needed products. ECONOMICS AND FUTURE NATIONAL SECURITY ISSUES In the future, security conflict among nations may change from predominately military contests to ones primarily featuring other elements of national power. That option is also open to non-state a jenniferpie61http://www.blogger.com/profile/16061646052386420123noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7353239897750692420.post-87575802889170064862020-01-19T03:08:00.001-08:002020-01-19T03:08:04.947-08:00Impact of Education Choice on Public Funds EssayBrown v. Board of Education of Topeka, 347 U. S. 483 (1954), was a landmark decision of the United States Supreme Court that declared state laws establishing separate public schools for black and white students unconstitutional. Though the U. S. Supreme Court declared school desegregation in the 1954 ruling on the famous ââ¬Å"Brown v. Board of Educationâ⬠case, the state of Mississippi did not allow racially or ethnically different students to mix together in schools until 1970, sixteen years after the 1954 Supreme Court ruling, according to the Civil Rights Timeline, created by the Mississippi Humanities Council at Southern Mississippi. Brown v. Board of Education prompted parents in Mississippi to create nonpublic and charter schools in efforts to keep schools segregated. Legislation and School Choice in Mississippi At the present time, Mississippi doesnââ¬â¢t truly offer school choice. There is no private school choice program. Parents are not given money from the state to send their children to private or parochial schools. The Education Commission of the States reports that Mississippi has enacted a mandatory inter-district school open enrollment policy. Students can move between school districts- but that is not guaranteed for those who want to change schools. Both the sending and receiving school boards must approve it. Mississippiââ¬â¢s Constitution prohibits the appropriation of any state education funds for the support of sectarian schools or private schools (Miss. Const. Art. 8, Sec. 208). Though at the same time, state accreditation is mandatory for nonpublic schools receiving state funds. According to State Regulation of Private Schools, (June 2000), Mississippi law provides free textbooks on loan to pupils in all elementary and secondary schools in the state (Miss. Code Ann. à § 37-43-1 et seq). The loan of textbooks to qualified private schools does not violate Mississippiââ¬â¢s constitutional prohibition against public support of sectarian schools or the control of educational funds by religious sects. Private, parochial or denominational schools accepting free school textbooks on behalf of their students must file annual reports as required by the State Board of Education (Miss. Code Ann. à § 37-43-51). Throughout the years, numerous bills to give vouchers or tax credits/ tax deductions have died in House Committees. It was allowed to die in 2009. During the 12 years that the law was on the books, only one traditional public school converted to a public charter school. Senate Bill 2721 is the latest bill in regards charter schools. This current bill is one authorizing new start-up charter schools to be established in Mississippi recently passed the State Senate and is now being taken up in the House of Representatives. Senate Bill 2721, which passed the senate by a vote of 50-2 in February, authorizes five new start-up charter schools to be established in the state. With this bill, the school can be brand new, not a failing school converting to a charter. Local school boards would have the first look at proposals, but authorization power would still rest solely with the state board of education. According to Bill 2721, the definition of a start-up charter school is ââ¬Å"a public school operating under the terms of a charter granted by the State Board of Education with the approval of the local school board or school boards on the application of an eligible entity and may draw its students from across public school district boundariesâ⬠(Harrison, 2010) . Previous attempts to expand charter schools in Mississippi were shot down by fears of racial segregation. Some fear that it is a backdoor attempt to re-segregate many of Mississippiââ¬â¢s public schools, though supporters point out that a majority of charter school students in many parts of the country are minorities. ââ¬Å"Thereââ¬â¢s been some resistance from the Mississippi Association of Educators and other groups that say youââ¬â¢re taking money from public education,â⬠Watson continued (Harrison, 2010). ââ¬Å"Thatââ¬â¢s an absolute falsityââ¬âthis is public educationâ⬠(Harrison, 2010). Opposition still remains from some caucus members and from teacher unions (Heartland. org). Those who oppose the potential implementation of charter schools believe the schools will be taking away students, resources and funding from a public school system that is already heavily financially burdened. Impacts on Funding and Analysis Mississippi charter schools are eligible for the same funding as regular schools. They may receive federal, state, local or private funding. They are not taxing authorities and may not levy taxes or request tax increases in order to generate funding. Charter schools are funded with taxes, but operate with more flexibility and fewer restrictions than the traditional public schools. Often times, charter schools have a special emphasis, such as on the art or the sciences. According to the Mississippi Code of 1972, ââ¬Å"the State Board of Education may give charter schools special preference when allocating grant funds other than state funds for alternative school programs, classroom technology, improvement programs, mentoring programs or other grant programs designed to improve local school performanceâ⬠. Allowing charter schools to be created will minimally decrease the funding that public schools receive. Minimal because at most only five charter schools will come into existence and they will be spread throughout the state, not centralized in one location. The amount of funding will still be based on the number of students enrolled in the schools. Charter schools traditionally keep their numbers small. Jackson public schools is the third largest district in the state of Mississippi, none of these legislations are negatively impacting the funding of the district. Even the state law allowing book loans to private schools has not taken away from the students of JPS. It has been speculated that having a charter school law would make Mississippi eligible for more grants through the Race to the Top program, which is part of the stimulus package passed last year by Congress and signed into law by Obama. If this speculations is true, then all districts in the state are losing funds due to lack of charter schools. But the state Department of Education has said the lack of a charter school law would not prevent Mississippi from being eligible for the grants through the program (heartland. org). jenniferpie61http://www.blogger.com/profile/16061646052386420123noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7353239897750692420.post-6422466004974348792020-01-10T23:32:00.001-08:002020-01-10T23:32:05.810-08:00Importance of Events in Popular Music Essayââ¬ËHow do we determine the importance of historical events in popular music?ââ¬â¢ Why should we determine the importance of historical events in popular music? Whats important to one fan of an artist is completely different to the views from a fan of another artist. Its not just what makes the papers , magazines and tv that matters to fans. News about artists is broadcasted in many a way in todays world, mostly because ââ¬Ëstarsââ¬â¢ and their ââ¬Ëgoings onââ¬â¢ are more important to the general public than they have ever been before. people like to look up to artists or in most cases now look down on their drug abuse or outrageous behavior and bring back the reality that we are all the same and can all go through the same tough times. Music is the most favoured thing in alot of peoples lives today. Ipods and mp3 players are something that a vast majority of people carry around with them religiously and would feel empty without. Its only human that people are interested in what their favorite artist looks like, where they come from and their general background. This however has lead to artists lives being intruded and covered across various news feeds and social networks more than ever before. General public forget that there are infact 2 sides to an artist. The side that we see when we they are on tour and their natural human side. When they are on stage they are a musician. when they are not on stage they are classed as a celebrity whether they like it or not. Quote taken straight from the second line of wikipedia when the well known name ââ¬ËAmy Winehouseââ¬â¢ is searched ââ¬â ââ¬ËWinehouse is best known for her powerful contralto vocals, substance abuse and mental health issuesââ¬â¢ On a website such as Wikipedia its their job to write a biography on famous people. They have to include stories from each persona. The person they are writing about is a celebrity and they are a celebrity for a reason. Itââ¬â¢s wikipediaââ¬â¢s job to tell everyone who they are and how they got there. After reading the article on Amy it would seem that in some instances the fact that she has been caught smoking crack and been wandering round high in public in just her bra outweigh the better points about her career. Having then come across a ââ¬ËTalkââ¬â¢ page that gets raised if people arenââ¬â¢t happy with the way something is written it would seem my points were correct about this article ââ¬â ââ¬ËThis article covers Winehouse being photographed bloody and bruised, high, wandering in public in a bra, drug overdoses, being recorded smoking crack; it covers her health issues, her brushes with the law, in fact, every thing that has occurred over last year and a half. That the article doesnââ¬â¢t denigrate or make judgments or pronouncements about her attests to its neutrality, not a bias.ââ¬â¢ Straight away in this article the writer makes reference to Amyââ¬â¢s ââ¬Ëdownfallsââ¬â¢ making this a more noticeable point to begin with. If someone had heard a song by Amy on the radio and decided they wanted to know more about her as an artist they would be immediately switched off by the statement ââ¬Ë best known for substance abuse and mental health issuesââ¬â¢ this leaving an even bigger dent in a ruined fan base when the fact she had drug issues could have been kept as a minor point and concluded with the fact that that piece of news happened quite a while ago and sheââ¬â¢s doing alot better and back in the studio recording her third album. But thereââ¬â¢s also the argument that people need to know everything about her with it being a biography about a famous person. It would be bias of wikipedia to not mention the troubled aspects of her life aswell as her achievements in the music industry. Thereââ¬â¢s more news about artists going downhill than the fact their album may have been at number one for a matter of weeks because its what the public are eager to hear about. Writers are always looking for negative points to make about musicians as it gains kudos for them, the public love to gossip about others that are in a bad way and going through hell rather than gossiping about the fact someones been at number 1 for 10 consecutive weeks. Itââ¬â¢s like some peoples lives depend on wether Winehouse has had another drug outrage and been forced into rehab again. We only knew Miss Winehouse for a short period of time before she was swept off the our headlines to rehab. This thought pattern lead me to thinking of an artist that had been round for a longer period of time that had gone through a rough patch before their career crumbled. If we look back to a piece of musical news I found online from the 60ââ¬â¢s the way the articles are worded sound like the writer is writing the article with respect to the artist. Talking about what is happening to the artist at the time of course but in a way that is respectful and shows that the writer appreciates the problems that the artist in question is going through and has an appreciation for the music they make. ââ¬Å"These two cats seem to add that final dimension that was missing before in Hendrixââ¬â¢s live music. On the ââ¬Å"Are You Experiencedâ⬠album, he taped over his own rhythm guitar, so as to have some sort of melody to fall back on. Larry Lee now keeps it present all the time.â⬠The writer makes reference to the good things that have happened. Things that have changed the way the certain musicians music is written and how it has come to benefit future material. The article in question is talking about Hendrixââ¬â¢s gigs and his backing band and does mention the drugs he was taking at the time. The writer consistently praises Jimi and his band and only makes reference to the drugs right at the end of the article of which consists of one line. ââ¬ËThe drugs were found directly on top of clothes inside his luggage. Now who puts their stash right on top? Especially well-travelled freaks like Mr. Jimi, through border crossings. When he reà ported to the Toronto medical examà ining board, his body was found clean and pure. Ainââ¬â¢t a trace a shit in Jimi; but the word-of-mouth-and-press was not so clean.ââ¬â¢ Even when making reference to the drugs the writer details the happenings in a jokey way as if to say ââ¬ËSilly ââ¬ËOl Jimi!ââ¬â¢ like the writer was close to Jimi or really admired him. When relating this back to todays news about stars you can tell alot has changed in the way we really appreciate musicians. The public go through years of enjoyment from an artist and their music, relating songs to their personal experiences but as soon as the star does something even as minute as forgetting to put knickers on they are slated and the writer jumps to obsurd conclusions such as the star must have forgotten to put knickers on because they had been taking drugs or drinking copious amounts of alcohol. Thereââ¬â¢s no appreciation for the artist and no respect for the way the artist feels. Jimi Hendrix died of an apparent drug overdose on the 18th September 1970. It was the death of someone who had created the backbone of R&B and rock music that musicians still use today. He created so many different techniques on the electric guitar that musicians class as basics or must haves today. The drug overdose that killed him is what has urged me to talk about Jimi. I was intrigued to see how writers spoke about him once he had gone and how people still remember him today. I wanted to see wether people remembered his celebrity side more or actually did remember him for the musical legend that he was and still is today. Drugs in the psychedelic 1960ââ¬â¢s were used by many people for recreational reasons. LSD was the drug of the century, lots of other musicians used it and fans used it to enjoy music to its full potential. That was a regular occurrence in the 1960ââ¬â¢s but after Jimi died of a drug overdose it becomes that little bit more concerning and people wanted to start digging for reasons as to why heââ¬â¢d want to kill himself. ââ¬Å"I donââ¬â¢t want to be a clown anymore.â⬠ââ¬Å"I donââ¬â¢t want to be a ââ¬Ërock and roll star,â⬠ââ¬â¢ Jimi says, emphatically. The forces of contention are never addressed but their pervasiveness has taken its toll on Jimiââ¬â¢s stamina and peace of mind. Trying to remain a growing artist when a business empire has nuzzled you to its bosom takes a toughness, a shrewdnessâ⬠Note the fact Jimi states ââ¬Å"starâ⬠when he speaks. He had had enough of the stardom that being a good musician brings. His story relates to Kurt Cobains story in the way that them being celebrities and their lives being invaded all the time got far too much for them. The clown part of the quote could link to the fact that clowns are a form of entertainment and people watch their every move when they are around. Jimi Enjoyed being a musician but was sick of people consistently following him around and he wasnââ¬â¢t able to get time to himself. ââ¬Å"Lest anyone forget, Leaà cock ââ¬â Pennebakerââ¬â¢s Monterey Pop has immortalized his pyromaniacal affair with the guitar. Rock media bedroom talk makes him King Stud of the groupies. Stories circulate that he is rude to audià ences, stands up writers, hangs up photographers, that he doesnââ¬â¢t talk.â⬠The way the writer speaks about this problem is in a respectable way, saying pop has ruined his relationship with his guitar. They donââ¬â¢t slate him for wanting to just be one side of the coin. Today musicians have two personas because it seems right to be that way. Music to them is work and its a shame that they have to be followed when theyââ¬â¢re not doing their work. When anybody else finishes work they leave and become themselves again. Thereââ¬â¢s no rules when youââ¬â¢re yourself. You can drink where you like, say what you want, do whatever you like, wear what you want but being a musician has its limits. The public eye is always on you, you have to be wearing the right clothes whenever you leave the house and you have to look good when you leave the house. Today you canââ¬â¢t just be a musician, youââ¬â¢re a celebrity aswell and once the celebrity lifestyle has a hold of you thereââ¬â¢s no turning back. Looking at other articles from the 1960ââ¬â¢s it seems that alot more was accepted at the time. Drugs such as LSD, heroin, amphetamines and cannabis were widely used in the fan world and in the musical world. In todays world drugs are much less tolerated and forces crack down alot more on them. People have generally grown up knowing that drugs are bad and not acceptable and that you should never go near them. Back in the 1960ââ¬â¢s people were persuading others to use recreational drugs to have a good time with them. With the case being that drugs were alot more accepted in the 1960ââ¬â¢s writers at the time had less to write about musicians lives and more about the way they perform and the way their music is put together. Jimi Hendrixââ¬â¢s death was a turning point for popular music. A massive gap had to be filled and for years other artists have pioneered to become the new Jimi Hendrix, a true guitar hero. His death was so shocking that people still write about him and his achievements today. The music in the 60ââ¬â¢s was so much more important than the stardom that people seek today which is why we remember Jimi Hendrix for his Music and Not his Drug abuse like Amy Winehouse. jenniferpie61http://www.blogger.com/profile/16061646052386420123noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7353239897750692420.post-88425109010574415922020-01-02T19:54:00.001-08:002020-01-02T19:54:04.064-08:00A Study On Immigration Research Essay - 1464 Words Maddy Zhu Anthropology 3AC GSI: Naomi Schoenfeld, Section: 107 December 1, 2016 Immigration Research Paper In the spring of 1983, Henry Zhu, accompanied by his parents and older brother, immigrated from Guangzhou, China to Brooklyn, New York with nothing more than 2 suitcases and $2000 of pocket money for the family. His parents, a physician and school principal, decided to uproot their family and migrate to the United States because of the success from close relatives, who had immigrated to New York approximately a decade prior for better education and better paying job opportunities. Both Henry and his brother sought to follow in their fatherââ¬â¢s footsteps as a physician, and with Americaââ¬â¢s prestigious educational system, it seemed obvious at the time for their family to do so. Although adapting to the culture and environment, while having to live stringently from economic hardships, was difficult, Henry was able to fulfill the dream that was instilled in the minds of both him and his parents, as he continued his higher education at Harvard College and Harvard Medical School to reach his present day status as a cardiothoracic surgeon. ââ¬Å"The primary reason we moved here from China was economical,â⬠Henry explained when asked why (in-person interview, September 28 2016). The Flaws of the Tragic Hero Hamlet in Shakespeares Hamlet With Hamlet being generally labeled as the best tragic hero ever created, it is ironic that his tragic flaw has never been as solidly confirmed as those of most of his fellow protagonists. There is Macbeth with his ambition, Oedipus with his pride, Othello with his jealousy, and all the others with their particular odd spots. Then there is Hamlet. He has been accused of everything and of nothing, and neither seems to stick. Flaws are carved out of obscure conversations when he may or may not be speaking truthfully and alleged from instances of his own self-discipline. Most heroes strong points are unique for their possessors. They have few others. And so, the tension is concentrated upon those spots and they are quickly and noticeably sc ratched. And the interpreters leap upon the battle wound and call it a flaw. It is given a name, ambition, arrogance, or other words that society likes to use to demonize a rise above mediocrity and indecision. All this, of course, has been tried on Hamlet, and none are universally accepted as right or even slightly viable. He has no one point on which to concentrate the attack. He smashes against the ragged walls of his cell with inflexible force. He alters his environment on all fronts, from his own appearance to the psychological states of others (most notably Ophelia). His flaw is the strength of his strengths, the consistency of his consistencies. There is, first of all, what he says of himself. He says to the ghost, just as the plot gets underway, thy commandment all alone shall live / Within the book and volume of my brain.(Act 1, Scene 4, 102,103) Then, again, the message comes, soon after the climax, in the form of: My thoughts be bloody or be nothing worth!(Act 4, Scene 4, 66) He then dedicates himself entirely to his cause. The most common way of defining social ethics is a system of principles that distinguish between right and wrong. From a young age humans are taught ethical norms from family, religion, friends and the legal, political and social culture. ââ¬Å"Ethical norms are so ubiquitous that one might be tempted to regard them as simple commonsense. On the other hand, if morality were nothing more than commonsense, then why are there so many ethical disputes and issues in our society?â⬠(Resnik, 2011). Ethical disputes emerge from value conflicts because people interpret and apply ethical norms in different ways due to their own beliefs and life experiences. In research, these conflicts are expressed in various ways:â⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦It is therefore important for researchers to learn how to interpret, assess, and apply research rules and how to make decisions and act in diverse situations. Most cultures have legal rules that govern beha vior, but ethical norms have a tendency to be more informal than laws. ââ¬Å"Although most societies use laws to enforce widely accepted moral standards and ethical and legal rules use similar concepts, it is important to remember that ethics and law are not the same. An action may be legal but unethical or illegal but ethicalâ⬠(Resnik, 2011). This is one reason why social scientist researchers have begun to address the particular ethical issues that arise in their work. By examining two highly debated case studies it will be clear to see why ethics in research is so important. Both The Bell Curve written by Richard Herrnstein and Charles Murray and Pygmalion in the Classroom by Robert Rosenthal and Lenore Jacobson identify education as being one of the main avenues of social mobility. Within our educational institutions today, supremacism remains a function of how schools enforce discipline, use standardized tests, select curriculum and texts, and teacher attitudes. On the other hand, the most notable difference between the cases is the significant discrepancies in intelligence between racial and ethnic groups. The authors of The Bell Curve argue that no amount of jenniferpie61http://www.blogger.com/profile/16061646052386420123noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7353239897750692420.post-27063140432202498792019-12-09T08:54:00.001-08:002019-12-09T08:54:02.624-08:00I.t. doctors database analysis Essay Example For Students I.t. doctors database analysis Essay There are some parts of a Doctorââ¬â¢s Surgery that could benefit from computerisation. As time goes on technology will aid most types of work, for instance office work (Department of Trade and Industry, for example). Technology could be used in a Doctorââ¬â¢s surgery to computerise the patientsââ¬â¢ files, to print out prescriptions and certificates for things like immunisations. The patientsââ¬â¢ file would consist of their name address, telephone number, D.O.B, sex, allergies, and diseases. In addition, it will be faster for the doctor to access his or her files because they are all just a few clicks of a mouse button away instead of loads of paper-based files in a big fat cabinet away. If you were to misplace a file in your office, it would probably be hard to find it, whereas if you lost a file on a computer you could use the find utility in Microsoft Windows 95, 98 or 2000 (by pressing the button and F at the same time) and the file would be found in a few seconds. On a computer you could automatically put the files in alphabetical order by whatever- name, GP, date of birth e.t.c. However, in an office cabinet it really would not be easy at all to put and keep the files in some sort of alphabetical sequence. Currently the database is pen-and-paper based, which may be cost effective but is very time-consuming when compared to a computer-based database. Say you have a paper-based database. If one of your clients move house or get married, you would have to create a whole new record because of the altered information. And say it was a family who moved residence, and then after you made the new records the parents got married. It would cause a lot of hassle and waste a lot of time, wouldnââ¬â¢t it? The doctor would get annoyed searching for peopleââ¬â¢s files and they would take longer to get through things, which means less appointments every day. The dilemma is that I need to make a database to answer all these problems. I will make a database for a doctorââ¬â¢s surgery so the doctors can look up and alter the files of their patients with just the click of a button. The database will be able to find their medical record (allergies, etc.), their home address, their home phone number, their allergies (if any), and their diseases (if any). The potential users of this database are doctors, stand in doctors, receptionists, physiotherapists and nurses. Doctors are potential users because they are the people treating their patients so they will need to be constantly checking their patientsââ¬â¢ files. That also applies for the nurses, physiotherapists and receptionists. Receptionists are potential users because they are the people who book the appointments and edit files for things like addresses or names. Also, I will need to make a brochure for my company for it to be a form of advertising. In addition to that, I will make a slide show advertisement that customers could watch when in the surgery. This could be used to let them know the full capabilities of the surgery; it could also help the customers tell their friends about the surgery in case their friends are looking for something that they cannot find in other surgeries. I asked my GP (General Practitioner) these questions:1. Would you prefer a paper-based record of everything or a computer-based record of everything?2. Why?3. Which system are you currently using?4. What are the advantages and disadvantages of using this system?5. Did you ever use the other system?6. Why did you change? He replied:1. I would prefer a computer-based record of everything. .u5c8e936029bd136cc90b58bbba46ae18 , .u5c8e936029bd136cc90b58bbba46ae18 .postImageUrl , .u5c8e936029bd136cc90b58bbba46ae18 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u5c8e936029bd136cc90b58bbba46ae18 , .u5c8e936029bd136cc90b58bbba46ae18:hover , .u5c8e936029bd136cc90b58bbba46ae18:visited , .u5c8e936029bd136cc90b58bbba46ae18:active { border:0!important; } .u5c8e936029bd136cc90b58bbba46ae18 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u5c8e936029bd136cc90b58bbba46ae18 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u5c8e936029bd136cc90b58bbba46ae18:active , .u5c8e936029bd136cc90b58bbba46ae18:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u5c8e936029bd136cc90b58bbba46ae18 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u5c8e936029bd136cc90b58bbba46ae18 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u5c8e936029bd136cc90b58bbba46ae18 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u5c8e936029bd136cc90b58bbba46ae18 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u5c8e936029bd136cc90b58bbba46ae18:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u5c8e936029bd136cc90b58bbba46ae18 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u5c8e936029bd136cc90b58bbba46ae18 .u5c8e936029bd136cc90b58bbba46ae18-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u5c8e936029bd136cc90b58bbba46ae18:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Human Cloning Isn't as Scary as It Sounds Essay2. Why? Because it means easier access, more space in my room, lees time-consuming, and I can print out prescriptions instead of hand-writing them, and I donââ¬â¢t have re-record things when I have to edit something. 3. Currently I am thankfully using a computer for my records and prescriptions. 4. The advantages are that it is quick, that the files can be edited, added and erased easily, etc. The disadvantages are that data can be lost permanently; the computer can crash because of bugs. 5. I used the other system years ago. 6. I changed because compared to the system I am using now it was very frustrating and time-consuming. In my database I will construct a spreadsheet for customer details, employee details, for the supplierââ¬â¢s details and appointment details. From these spreadsheets I will generate a form for each so the receptionist/Doctor can simply fill out the form instead of having to keep checking what column he/she is writing on in a spreadsheet. It is also easier to write in forms rather than spreadsheets because you can merely press the tab button to move down to the next data insertion/edit field. I will mail merge the spreadsheets for customer details, employee details and prescription supplierââ¬â¢s details. I will need a computer, preferably with Microsoft Access included, and one or more floppy discs to transfer my work from one computer to another. I will make a logo to represent my company in the advertising area of things, and I will make a slide show for my company, also for advertising purposes. You could make certain databases available to certain people only, for instance the appointment data available only to the receptionist, the patientââ¬â¢s data available only to the This Database would only be available to the Doctor, and you could certify this by these security procedures:? Encryption? Password at login screen? Password at bootup screen? Files kept on LaptopProblems with the current system? It is written on paper? The doctor would have to re-print the patientââ¬â¢s file if something had to be altered, e.g. vaccinations, change of telephone number, moving house. ? You have to sift through loads of files to find a specific patients file? The only way they are secure from prying eyes is to lock them in a cupboardObjectives of the new system? Faster access to files? Easier alteration of files? Confidentiality? To be less space- consumingLimitations? If I were to create a new program to do this task from scratch, I would have to learn C++ so I could do it? I can only use the programs that I have access to: Microsoft Access, Microsoft Works, and Delphi 3. ? Time You never have enough time. The limitations of the potential users will be minimised by the production of a simple user guide written in plain English. The limitations imposed by the resources available are: ? I can only use a program that I and they have constant access to? I and they must know how to use the program to good effectSo, the key objectives are to make a logo, id badge, business card and a doctorsââ¬â¢ database for a surgery. There are no data sources needed for this task; all the names have been devised by myself to use in the database. A person is not innately any characteristic, he was brought to the world from love and must choose to love or not. Mother Theresa explains this best by saying, "Everyone was created to be loved and to love." The novel, Lord of the Flies, has characters that were not brought to the island good or evil, but has characters that changed because the atmosphere that they are in changed them. Because of the environment that you are in makes you become a certain person, you change with the circumstances of your environment, and interact with the condition of your environment. Major events affect your life in drastic ways. A marriage, for instance is a major occurrence and different kinds of marriages can drastically change your life. A marriage that is abusive emotionally and physically can make your life full of hatred, you could be depressed, you could see your self as less a person than you are, and you could also be a frightened person because of it. A marriage completely different is one full of love. A marriage like that can cause a person to act blissful, to go out and do more things on account of your support system, and you can show other people to have loving lives like yours. All the characters, as one, are in a kind of marriage together, they lived concurrently and supported each other. The marriage was abusive, they taunted each other, especially Piggy. They taunted him at first meeting by saying this, "He's not Fatty... his real name's Piggy"(21). On account of that Piggy felt not worthy to other characters in the novel and didn't get to show his more intelligent side to everyone. Events are a primary device that causes people to act a certain way. If the characters didn't live so close together and taunt Piggy, would he have acted the way he did through the course of the novel? Being brought into particular situations can alter your life. To cite an instance, a child being taken from his home, the only place he knew, and put into a foster home would be a particular situation that could alter one's life. The other place he lived in may have been harmful to his well-being and it was a positive occurrence that he was brought out of his home. On the other hand, the foster home could affect his well-being in a more negative way than his old home. The Lord of the Flies is based upon the fact that these children were suddenly thrusted into a new environment that in the end affected them in a very negative way. The conversation Ralph has with the naval officer in the end expresses how a person from the outside can't believe that children could be killing each other just because they are alone on an island; the officer says," We saw your smoke. What have you been doing? Having a war or something?" (201). The truth was that their new environment, the island, was a big reason that did really have a war with each other. Changing an environment may have an effect on a person in many different ways, good and bad. People are who they are because of people that surround them. For example, Piggy grew up with his aunt, who spoiled him, and taught him about his asthma. Piggy proves he runs his life according to his aunt by saying, "My auntie told me not to run...on account of my asthma"(9). Piggy's new surroundings changed him into what he was in the story. An example of this would be when the other boys teased him. Because of their harsh treatment he was quiet and less self-confident. The boys were now his aunt and they now controlled how he acted and felt. Lord of the Flies is a good example of how people in your surroundings help make the person you are. In conclusion, your future is not decided at birth. The good and evil in mankind depends on the situations that happen, not on that one person. The evil that happened in Lord of the Flies occurred because of the situations on their environment, the island, and the situations that happened to them individually. A person is not just jenniferpie61http://www.blogger.com/profile/16061646052386420123noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7353239897750692420.post-12290238876620251262019-11-26T20:31:00.001-08:002019-11-26T20:31:03.270-08:00Free Essays on BloodBeep, beep, beep, beep. ââ¬Å"You were traveling to class in the morning, it was very foggy. Ghazals originated in 8th century Arabic verse, came to the Indian subcontinent with Sufis in the 12th century, and flourished in the voices of the great Persian mystics, Rumi in the 13th century and Hafez in the 14th century. After Goethe became enamored of the form, ghazals became popular among 19th century German poets, as well as more recent generations like the Spanish poet and playwright Federico Garcà a Lorca. In the last 20 years, the ghazal has taken its place among the adopted poetic forms used by many contemporary poets writing in English. A ghazal is a short lyric poem composed of a series of about 5 to 15 couplets, each of which stands independently on its own as a poetic thought. The couplets are linked through a rhyme scheme established in both lines of the first couplet and continued in the 2nd line of each following pair of lines. (Some critics specify that this rhyme carried through the 2nd line of each couplet must actually, in strict ghazal form, be the same ending word.) The meter is not strictly determined, but the lines of the couplets must be of equal length. Themes usually are connected to love and longing, either romantic desire for a mortal beloved, or a spiritual longing for communion with a higher power. The closing signature couplet of a ghazal often includes the poetââ¬â¢s name or an allusion to it. Ghazals traditionally invoke universal themes like love, melancholy, desire and address metaphysical questions. Indian musicians like Ravi Shankar and Begum Akhtar made ghazals popular in the United States during the 1960s. Americans also discovered ghazals through the New Delhi poet Agha Shahid Ali, who blended Indo-Islamic traditions with American-style storytelling. jenniferpie61http://www.blogger.com/profile/16061646052386420123noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7353239897750692420.post-28413339197499263402019-11-21T04:09:00.001-08:002019-11-21T04:09:07.557-08:00Ending of Life Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 wordsEnding of Life - Essay Example The LCF strongly views that the legalisation of euthanasia and physician assisted suicide is against the right of the under Article 2 of the European Convention on Human Rights. The LCF has brought to light that euthanasia or physician assisted suicide cannot be truly autonomous acts which requires consent and the accurate assessment of competence is not adequately guaranteed. Further, the submission also focuses on the fact that it is to too difficult to ensure a truly voluntary decision and it is impossible to regulate euthanasia or physician assisted suicide. The LCF rightly has pointed out that neither the doctors nor patients want euthanasia and the legalization would create a policy drift away from the principle of inviolability of life, thus opening the door to further liberalization of the law. In the submission, ââ¬ËECHRââ¬â¢ denotes the European Convention on Human Rights 1950, ââ¬ËECtHRââ¬â¢ denotes the European Court on Human rights; ââ¬ËPASââ¬â¢ denotes physician assisted suicide, where a doctor helps a patient to take his or her own life; Euthanasia denotes the intentional termination of a patientââ¬â¢s life by a doctor who thinks that death is of benefit to the patient; Involuntary euthanasia denotes euthanasia being carried out against the wishes of a Non ââ¬â competent patients; The House of Lords Committee denotes the House of Lords Select Committee on the Assisted Dying for the Terminally Ill Bill; The Select Committee Report denotes the First Select Committee Report of the House of Lords on the Assisted Dying for the Terminally Ill Bill. The classical period has emphasized the shift from depicting gods and goddesses with their ideal forms into human beings in their natural state. This has been continued in the Hellenistic period yet "the artist of the Hellenistic era expanded his formal horizons with dramatic posing, sweeping lines, and high contrast of light, shadow and emotions" (Greek Art 2. From the simple depiction of Poseidon or Zeus in the classical era, the Hellenistic art comes up with more dramatic masterpieces such as the sculpture of Antinous which imparts deeper emotion. It should also be noted that the "subtle implications of greatness and humility of the classical era are replaced with bold expressions of energy and power" (Greek Art 3). The classical period's Charioteer of Dephi even though recognized for the severity of movements is relatively static when compared to the Hellenistic period's Boy Jockey which highlights tension. Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle are considered the three greatest thinkers in Greece. jenniferpie61http://www.blogger.com/profile/16061646052386420123noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7353239897750692420.post-61664897641798938312019-11-17T06:14:00.001-08:002019-11-17T06:14:06.751-08:00Feminism and Cultural Identity Essay Example for Free Feminism and Cultural Identity Essay Barbie, a worldwide viral doll known for her interest in adult-fashioned roles, indirectly constitutes the way American girls should grow up to be. With the creation of this doll came the thirst and need to sell it. Therefore, just one version of the Barbie doll is not sufficient. Mattel Inc., famous for its numerous toy creations yet infamous for its many controversies, has made Barbieââ¬â¢s boyfriend, sister, cousin and even her dog. Consequently, Mattel created Barbie collectibles that included the ââ¬Å"Barbie Dolls of the Worldâ⬠. In this collection, the creation ââ¬Å"the notorious PR Barbieâ⬠as Frances Negrà ³n-Muntaner states in Barbieââ¬â¢s Hair: Selling Out Puerto Rican Identity in the Global Market, has developed confusion, furiousness and also indifference in the Puerto Rican society. In Sandra Cisnerosââ¬â¢ essay, Barbie Q, Barbieââ¬â¢s values are as she physically is, merely plastic. She is a ââ¬Å"mean-eyedâ⬠fashionista boyfriend stealer with emphasis on the stealing part. Barbie has made society assume that girls and womenââ¬â¢s interests are only based on their looks and men. At the same time, girls around the world are getting brainwashed into thinking that is what they were made to do and how they are meant to be. Because Barbie dolls are used by young girls who may be in the process finding who they are, these girls may grow up with these sexist values in their lives. With this being said, young girls are offered a very superficial way of life, the life of a Barbie, which may be pretty and cute from the outside but itââ¬â¢s a very fake one. With this, society has created a twisted way of how a girl or woman should be like. On this essayââ¬â¢s last paragraphs describes where the protagonists dolls come from; a flea market. The doll she had probably was damaged by a fire, but as she describes the damages it shows that in a way the child accepts not only the dollââ¬â¢s flaws, but her own. With this, she will not let society define perfection. And the search for perfection will be her own, not what society has taught. Another essay that embarks the same issue with Barbie dolls is the previously mentioned by Frances Negrà ³n-Muntaner. In this essay, Negrà ³n, states that when Mattel brought the new Boricua personage to the ââ¬Å"Barbie Dolls of the Worldâ⬠collection, Puerto Rican people from both the island and migrants in the United States had distinct yet connected opinions of the doll. Island intellectuals criticized the dollââ¬â¢s Americanized ideal of what a Puerto Rican should be and is like, this being a wavy-haired mulatta. Still, Puerto Ricans living on the island bought the doll and made it one of the most sold. On the other hand, Islanders now living in the United States considered the doll ââ¬Å"straight-haired and whiteâ⬠. The Puerto Rican Barbie offers young girls a misconception of what a Puerto Rican really is. The Puerto Rican Barbie was conceived almost in the 21st century with the mannerisms of a 19th century jà bara (a country-side woman). The idea behind ââ¬Å"Barbie Dolls of the Worldâ⬠was that American girls learned about different cultures in the world. Since Barbieââ¬â¢s are sold worldwide, there is an issue that is developed instantly. The American corporation Mattel has a big dilemma: making sure that the conception of the dolls is loyal to the culture it corresponds, an issue that they did not pay attention with proximity for the Puerto Rican Barbie doll. Thanks to this doll, people from around the world perceive Puerto Rican identity as country mulatto men and women. When in reality, Puerto Ricoââ¬â¢s race is a mix of African, Spanish and Taà no (natives): ââ¬Å"The lingering impression that the Puerto Rican Barbie was essentially white and that its ââ¬Å"mulattonessâ⬠was a cultural masquerade was reinforced by the boxââ¬â¢s ethnic ââ¬Å"originâ⬠story for Puerto Ricans: ââ¬ËMy country was discovered in 1493 by Christopher Columbus who claimed it for Spain.ââ¬â¢ In only mentioning that the island was discovered by Columbus, Mattel and its allies connote that all Puerto Ricans are fundamentally Europeans and banish the influence of Natives and Africans to the back of the bus.â⬠The dollââ¬â¢s box, to a certain point, limits the explanation of the Puerto Rican race and the consumer to his or her understanding and knowledge of the Puerto Rican culture, or any culture for that matter. The owner of the Barbie doll, or society passes to believe what the box primarily says. Usually, stereotypes are a general knowledge of a country or a culture. This not being the case on the Puerto Rican conception of the Barbie doll, she is put as an olive skinned, jà bara with a bomba dress, that in reality looks like a European dress with encaje (lace). If the doll was a jà bara (low class countryside woman) with a bomba dress, why did it have lace when it is a sign of a high-class European wardrobe? ââ¬Å"The dollââ¬â¢s main concern is for you to ââ¬Ëlike the special white dress I am wearing. It is very typical of a dress I might wear to a festival of a party.ââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬ states Frances Negrà ³n-Muntaner. The Puerto Rican doll is a complete stereotype of what a Puerto Rican is. If the box said that the doll is wearing a traditional outfit, or explained how our culture developed, it would be a different story. Nevertheless, the doll is put in a 19th century context when it was almost created within the new millennium. Clearly, Puerto Ricans must have passed through modernization or what Puerto Rican intellectuals call ââ¬Å"Americanizationâ⬠. Also, the dollââ¬â¢s features are the ones of a mulatto, when Puerto Ricans have a mixture of African, Taà no and Spanish. Puerto Ricanââ¬â¢s ethnic background is omitted with this doll. However, the most controversial issue with this doll wasnââ¬â¢t its skin color or its ââ¬Å"fiestaâ⬠wardrobe, it was its hair, as the essayââ¬â¢s title says: ââ¬Å"Barbieââ¬â¢s Hairâ⬠. Frances Negrà ³n-Muntaner shows various Puerto Rican opinions on the dollââ¬â¢s hair but the most outrageous states as follows: ââ¬Å"Lourdes Pà ©rez, a Puerto Rican Chicago-based, San Juan-raised interior decorator, was horrified at what she saw: ââ¬ËI donââ¬â¢t care that sheââ¬â¢s white. Puerto Ricans come in all colors. But when I saw that hair, I thought ââ¬ËDios mà oââ¬â¢, we just passed a terrible legacy to the next generation.â⠬⢠Despite exasperated responses from some Puerto Rico-based (white) men- ââ¬Å"[t]his woman is saying that the prevalent lack of respect, the lawlessness, drugs, driving conditions, domestic and child abuse arenââ¬â¢t as terrible a legacy as a straight-haired Barbieâ⬠Lourdes Pà ©rez then was pointed out by Louis Aguilar as a Puerto Rican woman who probably spent countless hours straightening her hair before going to the office or school. She was described as a woman ashamed of her griferà a. Pà ©rez contradicts herself in the previous quote because she emphasized, ââ¬Å"Puerto Ricans come in all colorsâ⬠and yet criticized what big hair the doll had. Puerto Ricans, as previously informed, are a mix of 3 bloods: Taà no, Spanish and African. Therefore, the issue that the Puerto Rican Barbieââ¬â¢s hair provoked is illogical. What Mattel should have worked on better, were its features and the box historical background. Because Barbie is a globalized toy, it is impo rtant that the company portrays the culture correctly so people wonââ¬â¢t generalize when in contact with another culture. The representation of Barbies as women helps re-create stereotypes because girls that play with these dolls are in the stage of life where they are in the process of formation as a human being. The dollââ¬â¢s profession or wardrobe will be what the child wants to grow up and be or know. Barbies as women are key to generalization and dolls should be what a kid wants it to be, not what a company wants women to be. In a way, Negrà ³n-Muntaner suggests in ââ¬Å"Barbieââ¬â¢s Hairâ⬠that cultural stereotypes affect not only how people around the world view Puerto Ricans but also how Puerto Ricans view themselves. A sort of indifference has been created with this doll. Puerto Rican folk know that the dollââ¬â¢s historical background is completely disfigured yet they still go out and buy the collectible Barbie. That is to say, Puerto Ricans have passed to not care about how other people view them. People around the world see Puerto Ricans like the doll; peasants wearing bomba dresses with European lace, that meant the person is in a higher social class. Itââ¬â¢s a bad combination of what we are. By reading these materials it has been clearly learned that it is very important that people know have a deep sense of they are and where they come from. Also, not to generalize a culture with a doll meant for a specific country. It is essential that we, as Puerto Ricans, become proud of our roots and get to know where we come from. We cannot limit our knowledge of what a Puerto Rican is and where he or she comes from to a doll. It is also necessary that girls own up to a Barbie, not the other way around. A Barbie is not a paradigm of what a girl should grow up to be. We are not perfect or plastic and we are not meant to be it either. This is where society fails. Most people donââ¬â¢t let their children know that they are perfect in their own way. It is most important that we let others know the wrongs that come from generalization and stereotypes. These, along with prejudice, paralyze and deactivate intelligence because people wonââ¬â¢t let it flow or let he or she get influenced by other cultures and learn. [ 1 ]. It came abount in a time when the previous dominent spiritual look at defining crime and criminal behaviour was being challenged by a newer naturalistic approach of the social contract theorists. The classical school was the established ideas of monarchs, fedual lords and the fathers of the church. The main pioneers of the classical school were Cesar Beccaria ( 1738-1974) from Italy and Jeremy Bantham from Britain (1948-1832). From them writing their theories in the eighteenth century they established the essential components of the rational actor model. They both shared the idea that crime and criminal behaviour could be understood and controlled by human nature. The classical school was not intrested in studying crime and criminals, it got its theorys from law making and legal processing. The new ideas of '' enlightenment'' philoshefers were Montisque, Rasseau, Voltaire, Thomas Aquins and Locke. The fundermental principles of the classical school are made up of four main things. These are, free will, rationality, self-intrest and responsibility. Free will - People thought that god made people commit the crime, the classical school thought that people are not forced into commiting crimes. They believe that its our choice to behave in a criminal or non criminal way. We have a range of choices, and it is up to us if we want to break the law. Rationality,- This is where we think about each pro and con of each action we take, and we think about what we are doing. Self-intrest.- The classical school believed that we were all born s... ...present the state. In proportion to all this, the law must specify the relationship between law and the punishment given. The Punishment must come very soon and as quick as possible after the crime has been commited. The judge's and the jurys administer the law and punishment and interprate the law. Beccaria's theorys have a huge impact on modern criminal law. The idea of free will is built into many legal codes. Jermy Bantham was a philoshopher and a leading disciple of Beccaria. He too thought that human nature had some place in people becoming criminals. He too was a believer in that people would commit crime to minimalise pain and maximise pleasure. Bantham believed that it was incorect up-bringing that caused people to commit crime. Works Cited Roger Hopkins Burke.
